New Fire N. of Mt. Washington Grows to 350 Acres

A new "holdover" fire broke out Sunday afternoon on the northern flank of Mount Washington and quickly grew to 350 acres as the governor ordered in outside help on Warm Springs Reservation Fires and a new set of thunderstorms rolled through the High Desert, peppering the area with hundreds more lightning strikes.

Warm Springs Wildfires Grow to 32,000 Acres

Four large wildfires on the Warm Springs Indian Reservation have now burned more than 32,000 acres, and the threat to nearly 200 homes has prompted Gov. John Kitzhaber to invoke the states Conflagration Act so that fire departments from northwest Oregon can help protect those homes from the growing blazes.

A Bend woman who failed to return from a day hike in the Cascade Lakes with her two dogs triggered an all-night search involving nearly 30 people that ended when the woman turned up 20 miles from where shed headed out, unhurt and in good shape, authorities said.
